J P Nadda launches Rota virus vaccine

The Union Ministry of health and welfare has been taking consistent efforts to develop new medicines and keep the contagious diseases under control. Recently, the minister of Health and Welfare launched the Rota virus vaccine.

  • Rotavirus vaccine is an initiative to provide immunity against Diarrhoea and bring infant mortality rate under control
  • This vaccine will be made available under Universal Immunization Programme

Maharashtra gets its first set of Women Commanders to protect forest

Women have been finding a place for themselves in all the challenging fields. Recently Indian Navy announced to recruit 3 female fighter pilots. Similarly, Women have been chosen as forest guards in Maharashtra.

  • A batch of 20 women are likely to become the first women commandos of the state forestry department.
  • They were trained from Gadchiroli’s Jungle Tactic and Survival Course (JTSC)
  • The one-month training began on February 8 and it include women of the age group 19-24

Common Yoga protocol revealed for 2nd International day of Yoga

The International Yoga day has been earmarked on 21st June. The second year celebrations are yet to come and as a part of it the protocol has been released by the AYUSH ministry.

  • The booklet consisting of the protocol was released in the Arogya fair which commenced in Goa
  • It was released by Shripad Yesso Naik on 26th March,2016

President Rule mulled in Uttarkhand

Fuelling up the political chaos in Uttarkhand, the President rule has been imposed in the state. The chaos began when the congress ruled government faced the opposition from the 9 rebel MLA’S.

  • The 9 rebel MLA’s proposed to support BJP in framing the new government
  • The congress government was forced to prove their majority. They had 27 MLA’s and also supported by 6 more.
  • A video showing the horse-trading of the rebels by CM Harish Rawat was released
  • This aggravated the situation further and governor K K Paul submitted his report about the scenario
  • PM Modi on the way to Assam immediately called for a Cabinet meeting to discuss the issue
  • Following this, President’s rule has been imposed on the state

Iran & Pakistan sign agreements to boost security, trade

Iran has signed agreements with Pakistan to boost trade and security. The agreements were signed during Iran President’s visit to Pakistan.

  • The talks between the two leaders mainly concentrated on economic relations and security reasons
  • This is the visit by an Iranian president after 14 years to Pakistan
  • The talks were about the issues related to energy, gas ,the export of electricity, economic integration in the region, promoting tourism and also focused on people to people contacts

Security Council extends UN Mission in Somalia

The Security Council has decided to extend the UN assistance provided to Somalia due to the political instability prevailing in the nation.

  • The 15 members of the Council unanimously adopted an extension of UNSOM’s work to support the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation process
  • It includes preparation for an inclusive, free, fair and transparent electoral process in 2016 and universal elections by 2020
  • The assistance will be given till March,2017

IOB Starts issuing of Gold bonds

The Union government announced three important gold schemes in the last year.One of the three schemes is the issue of gold coins through banks. As a part of implementation, the Indian Overseas Bank has started issuing the gold coins in its branch.

  • IOB is the first bank which has started the issue of gold coins
  • The gold coins are available in the denomination of 5,10 and 20 gms

TATA motors to supply 619 HMV’S to Indian Army

The automobile giant,TATA motors have signed a agreement with the Indian Army to supply 619 more Highly mobilized trucks to the Indian Army.

  • Tata 6X6 HMV is meant for the loading-unloading and transportation of ammunition pallets, spares and other operational equipment.
  • Tata has already supplied 1239 units and it being the highest order to a private company from the defence sector under Defence Procurement ProcedureTATA motors to supply 619 HMV’S to Indian Army
  • The 6X6 HMV is a indigenously developed vehicle

Indian appointed UN adviser on human rights and businesses

Professor Surya Deva has been appointed by the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council as an adviser formally known as Special Procedure Mandate Holder on human rights and multinationals and businesses.

  • He will be a member of the four-member Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises.
  • The advisers of the body report annually to the Council and in most cases to the UN General Assembly.

Taiwan Nationalist Party selected its first female leader

The Nationalist party of Taiwan has chosen Hung-Hsiu-chu as its first female leader after ousting her as its presidential candidate.

  • Hung takes over from Eric Chu, who was the party’s eventual presidential candidate and who resigned as party chairman after the defeatTaiwan Nationalist Party selected its first female leader
  • Hung was the former legislator and teacher and she was chosen from the three other competitors
  • Tsai Ing-wen, who belonged to the Democratic Progressive Party won the presidential election of Taiwan

9th International Abilympics held at Bordeaux in France

The 9th Edition of International Abilympics is held at Bordeaux, France. The two day event hosted from March 25-26.
