  1. Radha started a business in the year 2012 by investing Rs 25,000. The next year i.e. in 2013 she invested an additional amount of Rs 10,000 and her friend Shikha joined her with an amount of Rs 35,000. In 2014, Radha invested Rs 10,000 more and Preeti joined them with an amount of Rs 35,000. At the end of 3 years, what would be Shikha’s share in the profit of Rs 1,50,000?
    A) Rs 50,000
    B) Rs 45,000
    C) Rs 70,000
    D) Rs 75,000
    E) Rs 40,000
    A) Rs 50,000

    Explanation:
    Profit sharing ratio = 25000 * 1 + 35,000 * 1 + 45,000 * 1 : 35,000 * 2 : 35,000 * 1
    = 3 : 2 : 1
    So shikha’s share = 2/6 * 1,50,000

  2. A’s age is 4 years more than B’s age. A’s age is also 8 years less than C. 7 years hence ratio of B’s age to C’s age will be 7 : 13. Find the ratio of present ages of A, B, and C?
    A. 11 : 19 : 7
    B. 17 : 9 : 11
    C. 11 : 7 : 19
    D. 11 : 12 : 13
    E. None of these
    C. 11 : 7 : 19
    Explanation:
    A = B+4
    A = C-8
    B+7 / C+ 7 = 7/13
    Or (A-4)+7 / (A+8)+7 = 7/13
    A+3 / A+15 = 7/13
    A = 11
    So B = A – 4 = 11 – 4 = 7
    C = A+ 8 = 11 + 8 = 19

  3. In a group of 8 numbers whose average is 20, the average of first two numbers is 15 ½ and the average of the next three is 21 1/3. Find the eighth number if given that sixth number is less than seventh number by 4 and also less than the eighth number by 7.
    A) 30
    B) 25
    C) 33
    D) 45
    E) None of these
    B) 25
    Explanation:
    Let 8th number is x
    Then 6th number is x-7 and 7th number is (x-7) + 4 = x-3
    Now sum of first 2 , next 3, 6th, 7th and 8th is 8*20
    Add all, and find x

  4. A person lent out certain sum on simple interest and the same sum on compound interest at a certain rate of interest per annum. He noticed that the ratio between the difference of compound interest and simple interest of 3 years and 2 years is 35 : 11. The rate of interest per annum is
    A) 20%
    B) 17.2%
    C) 18 2/11%
    D) 22%
    E) 24 5/6%
    C) 8000
    Explanation:

    For 2 years, diff in CI and SI = Pr2/1002
    For 3 years diff is Pr2(r+300)/1003
    Pr2/1002 / Pr2(r+300)/1003
    = 11/35
    Solve further .

  5. To gain 25%, a milkman mixes water with the milk and professes to sell this milk at cost price. What is the percentage of water present in the mixture?
    A) 25%
    B) 20%
    C) 10%
    D) 15%
    E) None of these
    B) 20%
    Explanation:

    Let CP of 1 litre of milk is Re 1
    Then SP of mixture also equal Re 1.
    Now with SP = 1, and gain% = 25%, actual CP should be 100/125 * 1 = Rs 4/5
    By allegation method:
    Milk Water
    1 0
    . 4/5
    4/5 1/5
    Ratio = 4/5 : 1/5 = 4 : 1
    So % of water in mixture = 1/(4+1) * 100 = 20%

  6. 18 men can complete a piece if work in 26 days. 20 women can complete the same work in 33 days. 12 men started the work and worked for 18 days. Now they are replaced by 30 women. In how many days the remaining work will be completed?
    A) 11 11/13 days
    B) 11 days
    C) 12 days
    D) 11 2/3 days
    E) None of these
    A) 11 11/13 days
    Explanation:
    18m in 26 days . So 12 m in 18*26/12 = 39 days. They work for 18 days.
    So they complete 1/39 * 18 = 6/13th of the work
    Now 30 women have to complete remaining work ( 1 – 6/13) = 7/13
    20 w in 33 days, so 30 w in 20*33/30 = 22 days
    Let they complete remianing work in x days. So 1/22 * x = 7/13
    X = 154/13

  7. A bag contains 3 white balls, 5 black balls and 4 yellow balls. 2 balls are drawn at random. What is the probability that both the balls are black in color?
    A. 6/33
    B. 5/33
    C. 8/33
    D. 2/33
    E) None of these
    B. 5/33
    Explanation:
    From 5 black balls, ways for 2 balls is 5C2 = 5*4/2*1 = 10
    There are a total of 12 balls. Ways for drawing 2 balls is 12C2 = 12*11/2*1 = 66
    So required prob. = 5C2 / 12C2 = 10/66 = 5/33

  8. A man purchased some fruits for Rs 1000. He sold 2/5th of the fruits worth Rs 400 at 10% profit. At what percent must he sell the rest in order to get 20% profit on the whole?
    A. 26 2/3
    B. 25
    C. 30
    D. 33 1/3
    E. None of these
    A. 26 2/3 Explanation:
    2/5 (10) + 3/5 (x) = 20
    Find x

  9. Inside a square plot, a circular garden is developed which exactly fits in the square plot and the diameter of the garden is equal to the side of the square plot which is 28 metres. What is the area of the space left out in the square plot after developing the garden?
    A) 98 m2
    B) 146 m2
    C) 84 m2
    D) 168 m2
    E) None of these
    D) 168 m2
    Explanation:
    Side of square = 28
    Diameter of circular garden = 28, so radius = 14
    Area of space left out = area of square – area of circle
    = 28*28 – 22/7 * 14 *14

  10. A man can row 30 km upstream and 44 km downstream in 10 hrs. Also, he can row 40 km upstream and 55 km downstream in 13 hrs. Find the speed of the man in still water.
    A. 5 km/hr
    B. 8 km/hr
    C. 10 km/hr
    D. 12 km/hr
    E. None of these
    B. 8 km/hr
    Explanation:
    Let upstream speed = x, downstream speed = y km/hr
    Then, 30/x + 44/y = 10 and 40/x + 55/y = 13
    Put 1/x = a, 1/y = b
    Solve the equations.
    A = 1/5, b = 1/11
    So, x = 5, y = 11
    Speed in still water = (5+11)/2 = 8
