The Foxtrot class submarine was decommissioned on the 31st May, 1996, after 29 years of service. Addressing the annual Navy Day press conference on the 03rd December 2018, Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba had spoken of the launch of INS Arihant nuclear submarine. He called it the third and most reliable part of India’s nuclear triad.
