    2.obligation, drawing
    3.promise, forging
    4.plight, building
    5.swearing, manufacturing
    Answer – 3.promise, forging
    Explanation :
Govt came to power on the promise or commitment of fulfilling the demands. Hence options A and C are valid for the first blank. ‘Obligation’ B is also the right choice but will be next best option after A and C. For the second blank – ‘forging’ or ‘building’ is the right word. Consensus – a general agreement, accord, unanimity etc. ‘Across the political spectrum’ means across all the political parties, Govt wanted to build or forge a consensus on which all the political parties agree. Using this analogy, we can arrive at the answer C

    4.Inspite, involved
    5.Availability, accomplice
    Answer – 3.Stripped, complicit
    Explanation :
sentence tells about criminal proceedings against a person. It means the immunity was taken away, that is why the case has been filed, hence only B and C can occupy the first blank. For the second blank, Complicit – involved with others in an activity that is unlawful or morally wrong- is the perfect word. ‘Redundant’ – no more in use, unnecessary, expendable.

    2.deployment, escalated
    3.engagement, unified
    4.submission, subdued
    5.stationing, hampered
    Answer – 2.deployment, escalated
    Explanation :
Missile defence system can either be deployed or stationed in a place. Hence only option B and E are fit for the first blank. Also, from the sentence we know that this such an action by America would increase the tension between two countries (read closely – America deployed defence system in South China sea). Hence between B and E, ‘escalated’ is the right choice. Hamper (verb) – obstruct, impede, retard etc.

    3.anticipate, monitoring
    4.regard, celebrating
    5.predict, preparing

For the second blank, only ‘monitoring’ is the correct fit; other words could be ‘observing’ and ‘tracking’.

    4.aftermath, calibrated
    5.tenure, formulated
    Answer – 4.aftermath, calibrated
    Explanation :
Aftermath – the consequences or after-effects of an unpleasant event. Record levels were reached as a consequence of crisis or in the aftermath of crisis. Do notice the different ways in which options C and D are used. ‘During the crisis’ would also be correct, although meaning will change. For the second blank, we need a verb for the subject ‘plan’. Plans needs to be carefully formulated/calibrated/executed etc. ‘Conveyed’ wont make any sense.

    4.formidable, pitch
    5.credible, battle
    Answer – 5.credible, battle
    Explanation :
For the first blank, we need an adjective for the ‘opposition’. B, D and E are the apt options. For the second, only ‘battle’ fits. ‘Contest’ and ‘Encounter’ could be other correct words too. Robust – strong, rigid. Formidable – daunting, alarming, frightening. Fragmented – broken, not strong.

    Answer – 1.emerge, disarray
    Explanation :
Disarray – a state of disorder, confusion, chaos. Abetment – to encourage or support in wrongdoing. Read the sentence closely, in the first part the leader is becoming a stronger leader because of problems in the ranks of political opponents, hence we need a negative word in the second blank, hence option A. For the first blank, ‘develop’ and ‘grow’ could be other correct words.

    3.enjoin, correct
    4.recover, contain
    5.alight, impair
    Answer – 4.recover, contain
    Explanation :
For the second blank – damage can be ‘repaired’ or ‘corrected’ or ‘contained’. A and E do not fit in the second blank. Assess – to calculate; Enjoin – pressure, urge, encourage; Both the options do not fit in the first blank. Ground that slipped under his feet can be recovered or regained or restored (although the first two are better).
