1. Lacerate – फाड़ना

Meaning – tear or make deep cuts in (flesh or skin).

Synonyms – cut (open), gash, slash, tear, rip, rend, mangle, mutilate, maim, maul, shred, score, scratch, scrape, graze, incise; knife, gouge, split, cleave, hack, stab, tear apart, butcher, savage, wound, injure, hurt, damage.

Usage – jagged edges that lacerated their arms.

2. Lambaste – कोड़े से मारना

Meaning – criticize (someone or something) harshly.

Synonyms – criticize, castigate, chastise, censure, condemn, take to task, harangue, attack, rail at, rant at, revile, fulminate against, haul/call over the coals; upbraid, scold, reprimand, rebuke, chide, reprove, admonish, berate; informalrap someone’s knuckles, slap someone’s wrist, lay into, pitch into, tear into, lace into, dress down, give someone a dressing-down, carpet.

Usage – they lambasted the report as a gross distortion of the truth.

3. Torment – यातना

Meaning – severe physical or mental suffering.

Synonyms – agony, suffering, torture, pain, anguish, misery, distress, affliction, trauma, wretchedness, woe; hell, purgatory.

Usage – their deaths have left both families in torment.

4. Suffrage – मताधिकार

Meaning – the right to vote in political elections.

Synonyms – franchise, right to vote, voting rights, the vote, enfranchisement, ballot; voice, say, option, choice.

Usage – the congress is elected for five years by universal adult suffrage.

5. Vaccinate – टीका लगाना

Meaning – treat with a vaccine to produce immunity against a disease; inoculate.

Usage – all the children were vaccinated against tuberculosis.

6. Lacuna – कमी

Meaning – an unfilled space; a gap.

Usage – the journal has filled a lacuna in Middle Eastern studies.

7. Motley – पंचमेल

Meaning – incongruously varied in appearance or character; disparate.

Synonyms – miscellaneous, disparate, diverse, assorted, sundry, varied, mixed, diversified, heterogeneous.

Usage – a motley crew of discontents and zealots.

8. Redound – सहायता देना

Meaning – contribute greatly to (a person’s credit or honour).

Synonyms – contribute to, be conducive to, result in, lead to, effect; have an effect on, affect; formalconduce to.

Usage – he must hope that his diplomatic effort will still redound to his credit.

9. Berate – गाली देना

Meaning – scold or criticize (someone) angrily.

Synonyms – rebuke, reprimand, reproach, reprove, admonish, remonstrate with, chastise, chide, upbraid, take to task, pull up, castigate, lambaste, read someone the Riot Act, give someone a piece of one’s mind, go on at, haul over the coals, criticize, censure.

Usage – she had to berate Patsy and Betsy for giggling.

10. Umpteen – अनेक

Meaning – indefinitely many; a lot of.

Usage – you need umpteen pieces of identification to cash a cheque.
