1. Dismal – निराशाजनक

Meaning – causing a mood of gloom or depression.

Synonyms – dingy, dim, dark, gloomy, sombre, dreary, drab, dull, desolate, bleak, cheerless, comfortless, depressing, grim, funereal, inhospitable, uninviting, unwelcoming.

Usage – “she led them into a dismal cavernous hall”

2. Myriad – असंख्य

Meaning – a countless or extremely great number of people or things.

Synonyms – multitude, a large/great number/quantity, a lot, scores, quantities, mass, crowd, throng, host, droves, horde, army, legion, sea, swarm; informallots, loads, masses, stacks, tons, oodles.

Usage – “myriads of insects danced around the light”

3. Modicum – भोजन की थोड़ी मात्रा

Meaning – a small quantity of a particular thing, especially something desirable or valuable.

Synonyms – little bit, small amount, particle, degree, speck, fragment, scrap, crumb, grain, morsel, taste, soupçon, shred, mite, dash, drop, pinch, ounce, touch, tinge, dab, jot, iota, whit, tittle, jot or tittle, atom, inch, snippet, sliver, smattering.

Usage – “people with only a modicum of scientific knowledge”

4. Contraption – जुगत

Meaning – a machine or device that appears strange or unnecessarily complicated, and often badly made or unsafe.

Synonyms – device, gadget, apparatus, machine, appliance, mechanism, implement, utensil, invention, contrivance; Heath Robinson device; Rube Goldberg device; informalgizmo, widget.

Usage – “a newfangled contraption for making coffee”

5. Celerity – ज्लदी

Meaning – swiftness of movement.

6. Ardent – उत्साही

Meaning – very enthusiastic or passionate.

Synonyms – passionate, avid, impassioned, fervent, fervid, zealous, wholehearted, eager, vehement, intense, fierce, fiery, flaming, emotional, hot-blooded; earnest, sincere; enthusiastic, keen, committed, dedicated, assiduous.

Usage – “an ardent feminist”

7. Foment – भड़काना

Meaning – instigate or stir up (an undesirable or violent sentiment or course of action).

Synonyms – instigate, incite, provoke, agitate, excite, stir up, whip up, arouse, inspire, encourage, urge, actuate, initiate, generate, cause, prompt, start, bring about, kindle, spark off, trigger off, touch off, fan the flames of; rareenkindle, effectuate.

Usage – “they accused him of fomenting political unrest”

8. Pervasive – व्यापक

Meaning – (especially of an unwelcome influence or physical effect) spreading widely throughout an area or a group of people.

Synonyms – prevalent, penetrating, pervading, permeating, extensive, ubiquitous, omnipresent, present everywhere, rife, widespread, general, common, universal, pandemic, epidemic, endemic, inescapable, insidious.

Usage – “ageism is pervasive and entrenched in our society”

9. Venial – क्षम्य

Meaning – (of a fault or offence) slight and pardonable.

Synonyms – pardonable, forgivable, excusable, condonable, tolerable, permissible, allowable, understandable, justifiable; slight, minor, unimportant, insignificant, trivial, trifling, not serious, all right.

Usage – “he had compounded a number of venial failings with the mortal sin of adultery”

10. Glean – बीनना

Meaning – obtain (information) from various sources, often with difficulty.

Synonyms – obtain, get, take, draw, derive, extract, cull, garner, gather, reap; select, choose, pick; learn, find out.

Usage – “the information is gleaned from press cuttings”
