1. Deportment

Meaning – the way a person stands and walks, particularly as an element of etiquette. (चाल-ढाल)

Uses – Parents should model the type of deportment they want to see in their children’s actions and behaviors.

2. Impotent

Meaning – lacking in power, as to act effectively; helpless. ( दुर्बल )

Usage – As I stood outside my burning house, I felt impotent as the firefighters tried to save everything I owned.

3. Strife

Meaning – bitter conflict; heated often violent dissension ( विवाद )

Usage – When the political strife ended, the two parties were able to reach an agreement on the legislative bill.

4. Resolute

Meaning – very determined, persistent ( दृढ़ )

Usage – Usha’s resolute shake of her head told me that it was useless to try to change her mind.

5. Ascribe

Meaning – attribute a cause or characteristic. ( कारण बताना )

Usage – Because the doctor couldn’t ascribe Caroline’s symptoms to a specific cause, he ordered a battery of blood tests.

6. Artifice

Meaning – a move made to obtain an advantage or trick someone. ( चालाकी )

Usage – The magician’s illusion was nothing but a cleverly designed artifice.

7. Arrant

Meaning – complete, total, or utter (example: “arrant nonsense”) ( परले दर्जे का, कुख्यात )

Usage – All of the rumors that are being spread about Mickey are nothing but arrant rubbish.

8. Confluence

Meaning – a circumstance where two things merge or occur simultaneously. ( संगम )

Usage – The confluence of warm and cold temperatures is going to create a powerful storm.

9. Evince

Meaning – to show or express clearly; to make plain. ( प्रदर्शित करना )

Usage – Her sad eyes evince a level of grief much deeper than anyone has imagined.

10. Excerpt

Meaning – a short piece or clip from a larger piece of media. ( अंश )

Usage – The book closes with a brief excerpt from the next novel in the series.
