  • The ratio of A’s and B’s present age is 4 : 1. Also given that the product of their present ages is 196. What will be the ratio of their ages after 5 years?
    A) 11 : 4
    B) 13 : 7
    C) 12 : 7
    D) 11 : 3
    E) None of these
    A) 11 : 4
    Explanation:

    4x * x = 196, x = 7
    So ratio of ages after 5 yrs, 28+5 : 7+5 = 33 : 12 = 11 : 4

  • A, B and C start a business. The share of A in investment is 1/4th of the total for 1/4th of the time. B invests 1/5th of the total investment for half of the time and the remaining capital is invested by C for te whole time. What is the share of B in the total profit of Rs 1140?
    A. Rs 100
    B. Rs 170
    C. Rs 160
    D. Rs 210
    E. None of these
    C. Rs 160
    Explanation:

    Let the whole time is 1. then A invests for 1/4, B invests for 1/2 and C for whole 1.
    Contribution of C = 1 – (1/4 + 1/5) = 11/20
    So A’s share : B’s share : C’s share
    1/4 * 1/4 : 1/5 * 1/2 : 11/20 * 1
    1/16 : 1/10 : 11/20
    5 : 8 : 44
    Share of C in profit = 8/(5+8+44) * 1140 = 160

  • In a group of 400 persons, 145 play Cricket, 200 play Football and 150 play Hockey. Each of them plays at least one of the three games and 15 persons play all the three games. What is the number of persons who play exactly two games?
    A) 80
    B) 65
    C) 70
    D) 90
    E) None of these
    B) 65
    Explanation:
    8-3-dailyso 145 – (a+b+15) + 200 – (a+c+15) + 150 – (b+c+15) +a +b+c+15 = 400. Find a+b+c

  • A spent 20% of his monthly income on transport and 15% on transport. Out of the remaining amount he spent 40% on food and children’s education together and 30% on the medical. He is left with an amount of Rs. 8,775 after all these expenditures. What is A’s monthly income?
    A) 40,000
    B) 35,000
    C) 42,000
    D) 38,000
    E) None of these
    E) None of these
    Explanation:

    First he spent 20+15 = 35%
    Left = 100 – 35 = 65%
    From this he spent 40+30 = 70%
    So left with 30% of 65% of monthly income.
    Now 30/100 * 65/100 * monthly income = 8775
    Monthly income is 45,000

  • 300 gm of sugar solution has 40% sugar in it. How much sugar should be added to make it 50% in the solution?
    A) 60 gm
    B) 50 gm
    C) 22 gm
    D) 28 gm
    E) None of these
    A) 60 gm
    Explanation:
    Sugar = 40/100 * 300 = 120 gm.
    Let x gm of sugar to be added. So,
    50/100 (300+x) = 120+x
    Solve for x.

  • 12 men alone can complete a piece of work in six days, whereas 10 men and 21 women take three days to complete the same piece of work. In how many days can 12 women alone complete the same piece of work?
    A) 10
    B) 9
    C) 11
    D) 8
    E) None of these
    B) 9
    Explanation:
    12m in 6 days . So 10 m in 12*6/10 = 36/5 days.
    Let 1 w completes work in x days. So 21 w in x/21 days
    So (5/36 + 21/x) * 3 = 1
    Solve, x = 108
    1w completes in 108 days, so 12 w in 108/12 = 9 days

  • A bag contains 3 white balls, 5 black balls and 4 yellow balls. 2 balls are drawn one by one with replacement. What is the probability that both the balls are black in color?
    A. 16/135
    B. 25/144
    C. 28/133
    D. 19/102
    E) None of these
    B. 25/144
    Explanation:
    Prob of 1st black = 5/12
    Ball put back, so again pob of 2nd black = 5/12
    Total prob. = 5/12 * 5/12 = 25/144

  • The cost price of an article is Rs 320. A shopkeeper makes a profit of 15% after reducing the marked price of article by Rs 32. Find the profit % if the article was sold at marked price.
    A) 26 2/3%
    B) 25%
    C) 30%
    D) 33 1/3%
    E) None of these
    B) 25%
    Explanation:

    SP = 115/100 * 320 = 368
    So MP = 368+32 = 400
    So profit% = (400-320)/320 * 100 = 25%

  • What will be the cost of fencing a circular field whose area is 1386 sq. m? The cost of fencing is Rs. 5 per metre.
    A) Rs. 660
    B) Rs. 639
    C) Rs. 699
    D) Rs. 564
    E) Rs. 415
    B) Rs 660
    Explanation:

    ᴨr2 = 1386
    so, r = 21
    circumference = 2ᴨr = 132
    so required cost = 132*5 = 660

  • A man can row 7 km/hr in still water. In a stream which is following at 3 km/hr, it takes him 7 hrs to row at a place and back. How far is the place?
    A) 30 km
    B) 20 km
    C) 22 km
    D) 28 km
    E) None of these
    B) 20 km
    Explanation:

    B is speed of boat in still water, R is speed of stream
    Time is total time taken for upstream and downstream
    Distance = time * [B^2 – R^2] / 2*B
    =7 * [72 – 32] / 2*7
