External Affairs Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj undertook a 4-day visit to Bulgaria, Morocco and Spain from 16th to 19th February 2019 as part of India’s efforts to strengthen ties with these countries and expand avenues of cooperation.
External Affairs Minister’s 2-day visit to Bulgaria
Smt. Sushma Swaraj visited Bulgaria from 16th to 17th February 2019. This was a follow-up visit to the State visit of the President Ram Nath Kovind to Bulgaria in September 2018 and the first ever visit of an Indian External Affairs Minister to Bulgaria. 
- During the visit, she met with the Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ekaterina Zakharieva and discussed bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
- She paid floral tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the South Park in Sofia, which was unveiled last year by President of India along with President of Bulgaria to mark the celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
- She also interacted with the Indian community and Friends of India in Sofia during the visit.
External Affairs Minister’s visit to the Kingdom of Morocco
Smt. Sushma Swaraj visited the Kingdom of Morocco on 17th to 18th February 2019 in pursuit of India’s objective of enhanced engagement with Morocco and an opportunity to hold in-depth discussions on bilateral, regional and global issues. It was her first-ever visit to the country.
- She interacted with her counterpart Mr.Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation, Morocco and also called on His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco,Mr. Saad Dine El Otmani, Head of Government and Habib El Maliki, President of Chamber of Representatives, Parliament.
- 4 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)s were signed which included setting up of Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, Cooperation in Housing and Human Settlement, Reciprocal facilitation of procedures for issue of Business Visa and Cooperation in Youth Matters.
- She also interacted with the Indian community in Rabat and attended a program hosted by them. She was welcomed with ‘Vaishnav Jan’ song performed by a Moroccan singer.
External Affairs Minister’s visit to Spain
Smt. Sushma Swaraj arrived in Madrid, Spain on the last leg of her 3-nation visit from 18th to 19th February, 2019, at the invitation of her counterpart, Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation.
- She held a bilateral meeting with her counterpart to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual concern.
- The Spanish Government conferred upon her the prestigious Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit for India’s swift response through Operation Maitri in rescuing 71 Spanish nationals from Nepal in April 2015, in the wake of the disastrous earthquake.
- She also interacted with the Indian Community in Spain.
